Octora Permana’s recent installations and performances explore ideas of tension and pain. Her combinations of metal, electric cord, rice, fabrics and print media reference the physical and philosophical concepts of “Shibari” (Japanese bondage) practice. Permana is particularly interested in exploring the connections between human beings. For Permana, pain is both a political sensation and personal drama deeply linked with human experiences of mourning, melancholia, and ecstasy.
